To foster an inclusive environment that encourages all individuals to be a part of this ever-growing community of natural curls, kinks, braids or twists and most importantly, healthy hair.

It all began in 1997, by two migrant entrepreneurs from the Ivory Coast, with only one goal in mind: to provide. Provide for their young family and to provide natural braiding services to a community lacking an establishment that could cater to their needs. Thus, K&D African Hair Braiding was founded and it has been the benchmark for natural styling and braiding on Long Island for the past 23 years.

We have serviced clients from all over the island, including the neighboring city folk as well. Entire family trees—mothers, sisters, aunties and brothers—have started their natural journey with us and have brought along their young to join in the natural revolution. K&D is family owned and operated with a diverse, extended West African staff who brought their native hairdressing techniques with them for a uniquely integrated experience.

K&D’s evolution has been succeeded by Kandee, their daughter, who has introduced a more youthful and intuitive atmosphere for new and existing patrons. Our mission has always been to provide a service that clients feel has met their hair care desires. And now, that mission is being enhanced to also provide educated advice for long-term hair care and overall wellness. Because we are a family business, we pride ourselves in our ability to grow with our patrons and strengthen our family ties.
